Over 250 persons came together last Friday to show their support for Team Malta during the official Olympic send-off ceremony which was held on the Bastion Terrace of the Grand Hotel Excelsior and included an Asian Night Buffet.
The athletes kickstarted the evening by parading the official sportswear supplied by Joma, represented in Malta by Fullmarks Sporting, and the uniforms, provided by Bortex, that will be worn by the Maltese delegation during the Beijing Games.
Hosted by TV personality Charles Camenzuli, the show featured five members of Malta's Olympic team, namely judoka Marcon Bezzina, athletes Charlene Attard and Nikolai Portelli, shooter William Chetcuti and swimmer Ryan Gambin.
Grahame Elliot, of the Grand Hotel Excelsior, presented each athlete with a token gift as a sign of goodwill before their departure for the Beijing Olympics which start on August 8.
Joseph Cassar, secretary general of the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC), Chai Xi, the Chinese Ambassador for Malta, and MOC president Lino Farrugia Sacco addressed those present for Friday's activity.
