Five people were arrested on Sunday evening in a hotel room in Gżira on drug-related charges, sources told Times of Malta.

The five - four men and one woman - were reportedly taken into police custody after police found white powder in sachets and other drug-related items in the room. 

One of the arrested men was later taken to Mater Dei hospital after feeling sick while in police custody, the sources said. He was subsequently admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit. 

The police force's Communications and Media Unit was unable to confirm reports of the arrests.
