Fleur-de-Lys FEB grabbed the top placing in the men's Division One league on Sunday after beating Pembroke 3-1 in the most important fixture of the weekend at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
After losing the first set 25-20, Pembroke staged a fine comeback, winning the second set 25-22.
However, they failed to maintain the rhythm as Fleur-de-Lys imposed their superiority, winning the next two sets 25-20 and 25-14. They are now two points ahead over the same Pembroke and Aloysians.
From the ladies' league, Paola beat Kerygma 3-0, showing they should be serious contenders for the honours this season. X-Sel lost 3-1 to FDL.
Perhaps, the most balanced encounter of the whole weekend was a men's Division Two match involving Aloysians and San Anton A.
San Anton overcame their opponents in a clash that took more than two hours and five sets to determine a winner. San Anton's other team played against Kerygma, with the latter winning 3-1.
Kerygma and San Anton A lead the standings with six points each.
In the men's U-19 league, Kerygma took three vital points from their match against Fleur-de-Lys CFK 2-1. The Fleur-de-Lys U-19 girls made up for that upset by beating San Anton 2-0 in their category.
Flyers are the early pacesetters in the girls' U-16 league. They notched a second win, beating Kerygma 2-0.
