Floriana FC yesterday agreed terms with Premier League rivals Sliema Wanderers FC to take international defender Ian Ciantar on a season-long loan until next May.

Ciantar started the 2004/05 season with Floriana but his stint with the Greens was halted abruptly when he sustained a serious knee injury which required several months to heal.

This summer, Ciantar, 29, recovered full fitness and last week he played a substitute role in Malta's international friendly against Northern Ireland. The match finished one-all.

Floriana had a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign, winning only one point from three matches. This week they appointed Jan Artz, a former player in the Dutch league, as their new technical director.

Artz will be trying to help coach Jimmy Briffa lift the team's fortunes after the Greens' indifferent start.
