I would like to reply to Frederick Williams's letter (Valletta And Floriana, December 30) by saying that of course I am all in favour of Valletta being a Unesco World Heritage city.
What Mr Williams seems to have forgotten was that initially, however, in a letter titled Floriana Just A Suburb (December 2), Paul Spiteri Lucas had (unsuccessfully) tried to belittle Floriana's cultural and historical identity.
Due to the above, one might tend to doubt whether certain correspondents have ever heard of - just to name a few - landmarks such as St Publius church, the Granaries, the Catholic Institute, Montgomery House (now Middle Sea House), The Mall, Christ the King Monument, Wignacourt Fountain, St Anne Street, Capuchins Priory, Portes-de-Bombes, King George V Garden, the Archbishop's Curia, Ospizio, Sa Maison, Tritons' Fountain, Independence Arena, the War Memorial, Floriana Garden of Repose (Protestant Bastion Cemetery), RMA and KOMR memorials and Herbert Ganado Garden.
In conclusion, since Mr Williams urged me to read the hundreds of books written about Valletta (sic!), I am to say that, given time, I have no objection to doing so, but would also urge all Valletta citizens of goodwill not only to read any such book but also to interpret Floriana's glorious history with more objectivity.
