The F.O.I. reacted immediately to proposals the Ministry for Economic Services made soon after the end of negotiations with the EU, about granting access to EU markets for food, beverages and tobacco products for the benefit of Maltese manufacturers.

A meeting was held at the Federation to enable enterprises in the sector to discuss Government proposals with the permanent secretary in the Ministry for Economic Services, Paul Zahra, and the ministry's adviser, Fleur Vella.

The FOI delegation was led by Mr J. Pace, vice-president, and included Mr E. Calleja, FOI director general, and Ms C. Vella, FOI executive.

The meeting discussed a number of technical points with the official side and gave its written submissions within a few days.
