On September 30, an FOI delegation led by its president, Anton Borg, met the Malta Labour Party's industry spokesmen Dr John Attard Montalto and Chris Agius at the FOI's premises in Floriana.

The object of this meeting was for both sides to exchange views on the future of industry in Malta and the need for a realistic industrial strategy to cover the medium and long-term.

The problems currently confronting Malta-based industry and possible measures to strengthen its competitiveness were the subject of long discussion.

During the meeting, the FOI officials stressed that competitiveness-related issues had to be tackled if Malta is to continue attracting foreign and local direct investment, and to help create the valuable employment possibilities and technology transfer both directly and indirectly.

For the meeting, the FOI president was accompanied by FOI deputy president Adrian Bajada, FOI vice-presidents Joe Pace, Anthony Tabone and Ian Mizzi, as well as FOI director-general Edwin Calleja.
