FOI President Anton Borg attended the first meeting this year of the Council of Presidents of the Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe (UNICE).
The meeting, attended by all presidents of member federations of UNICE, was held in Lagonissi, Greece. The FOI president was accompanied by Dr Leonard Mizzi, director of the Malta Business Bureau and FOI permanent representative in Brussels.
The president attended a meeting organised with the president of the Hellenic Republic Costantinos Stephanopoulos last Thursday. Mr Borg also had the opportunity to meet the outgoing UNICE president, Georges Jacobs, as well as his successor, Jürgen Stube, who is also chairman of the supervisory board at BASF.
During the meeting of the Council of Presidents, held the following day, the Convention for the Future of Europe was discussed with a particular emphasis on the impact it will have on business.
Among the other topics on the meeting's agenda were environment-related matters, including the Kyoto implementation and climate change; the macro-economic situation in Europe; and a presentation on the International Organisation of Employers (OIE).
