Gozo 1234, the four-day festival spread over various localities in Gozo, came to an end yesterday with a full programme of entertainment, art and cultural activities throughout the day.
It was another occasion for many Maltese to spend a long weekend in Gozo with plenty of places to visit.
Apart from the various exhibitions, including one of sacred art at the Curia, the highlights yesterday included the Dwejra Fair, folklore in Xewkija and a fireworks display.
Civil Protection Department personnel were yesterday called out to extinguish a grass fire on the hill known as Ta' Gelmuż, on the outskirts of Rabat, possibly caused by falling debris from petards.
Another attraction was laundry being done the old way and the washing of sheep's wool at the Għajn tal-Ħasselin on the way to Xlendi.
An old underground mill situated at Xlendi, which was built in the 1950s and which was never used, was opened to visitors.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, and Mrs Gonzi attended a traditional folk dancing and singing activity in Victoria on Saturday as part of the festival.
