A man yesterday filed a judicial protest in the First Hall of the Civil Court holding Pembroke local council liable in damages.

Philip Attard claimed that in June the council granted him two permits to set up take-away food stalls in two different sites near the Luxol Sports Ground where the Australian Pink Floyd Show was to be held on June 25. The day before the show took place the local council together with the St Julians police told Mr Attard the permits were being withdrawn with immediate effect.

Although Mr Attard had protested, the local council confirmed its decision and had refunded Mr Attard the fees he had paid. Mr Attard claimed he had returned the cheque of the refund to the local council.

Mr Attard argued that the council's actions were abusive and illegal and unreasonable and that he had sustained damages as a result of the withdrawal of the licences.

Dr Toni Abela signed the protest.
