Football Awards ceremony tonight

The fourth edition of the Westin Malta Football Awards reaches its climax tonight when the presentation ceremony is held at the Westin Dragonara Resort, St Julians.

Organisers have enlisted a host of local football journalists to hand out the awards to the winners of the 13 categories featured in this year's contest.

The ceremony, to be presented by John Busuttil and Antonella Vassallo, will once again be shown live on Net TV.

The categories included in this year's Malta Football Awards are: Best Defender, Best Midfielder, Best Goalkeeper, Best Striker, Best Gozitan Player, Best Futsal Player, Best Female Player, Most Promising Youngster, Best Goal of the Season, Best Coach, Best Foreigner, Best Maltese Player and Powerade Public Best Player Award.

A special career award will also be announced during tonight's show.

The Powerade Public Best Player Award is unfolding into a neck-and-neck race between Sliema Wanderers' striker Ivan Woods and Gilbert Agius, the Valletta skipper.

This award will be secured by the player amassing the highest number of votes - through sms - from the public.

Six players have been nominated for this award but other players may be voted for by sending an sms on 50614007.
