Rangers Held: Champions Rangers slipped further behind in the Scottish Premier League title race after being held to a goalless draw at Dundee United yesterday. The Glasgow side had Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos sent off in the last minute for a second booking after he barged into United's Trinidad and Tobago substitute Collin Samuel. Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson hit the post in the first half with a free-kick from just outside the penalty area. After 10 matches Hearts remain top of the SPL standings with 26 points after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Celtic, who stay second with 23 points. Hibernian are third on 19 points while Rangers are trailing in fourth place with 17 points.

Bundesliga: Eintracht Frankfurt moved off the bottom of the Bundesliga with a 1-0 win away to fellow strugglers MSV Duisburg yesterday. Frankfurt, who won promotion with Duisburg last season, scored the winner in the 27th minute when Spain's Francisco Copado crossed low for Alexander Meier to tap in at the far post. Frankfurt's second victory of the campaign took them up to 16th place, still in the relegation zone but now only on goal difference. Duisburg dropped to 17th, with Nuremberg sinking to the bottom following their 6-2 defeat by new leaders Werder Bremen on Saturday. Hanover 96 climbed from 14th to 11th with a 4-1 win away to Cologne in yesterday's other game.

Benfica: Striker Nuno Gomes scored twice to give champions Benfica a 2-0 victory at Porto on Saturday night and their first success on the northern club's ground in 14 years. Benfica, recovering from their worst-ever start to a season, moved up four places to fourth in th league. They are now just a point behind Porto, who stay on 14 after their first defeat of the season and their first at home to Benfica since April 1991. Leaders Braga stayed two points clear following a 2-1 win at Rio Ave on Friday, when Nacional Madeira moved up to second on 15 points after preserving their unbeaten start to the season with a goalless draw at Vitoria Guimaraes.

Ronaldo: Real Madrid striker Ronaldo is doubtful for the Champions League match against Rosenborg on Wednesday after twisting his left ankle in their 3-0 Primera Liga victory over Atletico Madrid on Saturday. The Brazilian, who scored twice in the city derby, was carried off on a stretcher in the dying minutes at the Calderon after sustaining the injury when he put pressure on Atletico defender Luis Perea to turn the ball into his own net. Right-back Michel Salgado is definitely out of Wednesday's game after straining a thigh muscle against Atletico.

Vieira: Juventus midfielder Patrick Vieira will miss the Champions League match at Bayern Munich tomorrow with a groin injury, the Italian champions said. The Frenchman picked up the injury during France's 4-0 win over World Cup qualifying opponents Cyprus in midweek and has been left out of Juve's 21-man squad for the game in Germany.
