Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has denied the club wants to sign their former player Samuel Eto'o from Barcelona after the Catalans made it clear the Cameroon striker does not feature in the plans of new coach Pep Guardiola.

"There is no Eto'o case," Calderon was quoted as saying by Marca.

"I don't know where this came from and in any case Barcelona would never want to sell a player to Real Madrid."

The few players who have moved between the arch rivals have felt the full wrath of their former fans on their return to their old home.

Fiorentina reject Roma bid for Mutu

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu is not for sale, president Andrea della Valle told the club website after receiving an offer from Serie A rivals Roma for the Romania striker. Roma's £16m offer was rejected and Della Valle declared: "Mutu is and remains a Fiorentina player".

Mutu had been expected to complete his move to Roma this week and fans were anxiously awaiting the official confirmation.

Instead, the Viola released a statement blocking any attempt to swoop for the former Chelsea, Juventus and Parma player.

Roma are not expected to give up on their primary transfer target, though.

"We have had negotiations for Mutu and will continue to do so until the transfer window closes," said technical director Bruno Conti.

Solskjaer testimonial on August 2

Manchester United will play Espanyol next month in a testimonial for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Norwegian striker who was forced to retire last season after failing to overcome chronic knee problems.

Solskjaer has done enough training on the bike to get him through 20 minutes at Old Trafford on August 2. But after that he will concentrate on his duties as United's reserve team boss.

"It is like the end of a chapter," he said. "I am not an emotional type of person, so there shouldn't be any tears but you can never be absolutely sure how you will react."

Solskjaer is involved in charity work. Earlier this week he hosted a kickabout at Carrington in aid of young cancer sufferers at Christie's Hospital in Manchester.

Galatasaray want keeper De Sanctis

Italian goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis is attracting the interest of Turkey giants Galatasaray who are set to start talks with Sevilla on the possible transfer deal.

De Sanctis left Udinese for the Primera Liga last season after eight years and nearly 200 appearances.

But the 31-year-old played was almost all the time on the bench as Sevilla preferred Andres Palop in goal.

Galatasaray are believed to be discussing a loan deal with the option for a permanent switch at the end of the season. Sevilla are ready to let De Sanctis leave, but they could demand a fee for his loan, which may prove to be a stumbling block.

Hughes not selling Johnson

Mark Hughes, the Manchester City manager, yesterday told reporters that he has no plans to sell Michael Johnson this summer.

The England U-21 international has been linked with moves to Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, but Hughes has made it clear the midfielder is an important part of his future plans.

"We have had no enquiries for him and Michael is a big part of what we want to do here," Hughes told reporters.

"He has great potential and it doesn't surprise me that good players like him should attract interest from elsewhere."

Tainio leaves Spurs

Finland midfielder Teemu Tainio has joined Sunderland from Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, the Premier League club said.

Manager Roy Keane said of the 28-year-old: "His experience in particular and the fact he has played more than 40 international games shows he has a lot to offer to Sunderland".

Tainio joined Tottenham in 2005 and played in 83 league and cup matches in his three years at White Hart Lane.

Keane is also reportedly interested in adding three more Spurs players to his squad.

Steed Malbranque, Younes Kaboul and Pascal Chimbonda have all been linked with a move to the North East as Keane looks to strengthen his side.

De Rossi says Aquilani won't move

Daniele De Rossi told reporters that Roma team-mate Alberto Aquilani will not change club this summer and stay in the Serie A.

Aquilani enjoyed a fine campaign as Roma finished as runners-up in the league last season. He was also a member of Italy's Euro 2008 squad.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the English Premier League, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City reportedly on the trail of the midfielder.

Aquilani has yet to sign a new contract with Roma, with his current deal set to end in June 2010.

"His wish is to remain at the club and Roma's intention is to keep him," De Rossi said.
