Police have arrested a British journalist for harbouring a fan who intruded into the England World Cup team's locker room.

"Simon Wright, a British journalist who works for the Sunday Mirror, was arrested for defeating the ends of justice and flouting the provisions of the immigration act," Police Commissioner Bheki Cele said.

"The police have reason to believe that this incident was orchestrated and involved the cooperation of a number of individuals."

An England fan, Pavlos Joseph, has been arrested over the episode in the aftermath of England's 0-0 draw with Algeria on June 18.

The authorities came under fire afterwards for not immediately detaining the fan who was finally arrested two days later. Cele said Joseph had been put up in a hotel under a false name by the tabloid.

Bradley set for talks over future

US coach Bob Bradley will discuss his future with the Soccer Federation next month.

Bradley's team had a mixed World Cup campaign, topping Group C but falling at the first knockout hurdle against Ghana. Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati said he and Bradley would meet to discuss their next move in the next two weeks.

"I will sit down with Bob and we will talk about the goods and the bads of the tournament," Gulati said.

It remains to be seen whether Bradley, whose contract is due to expire in December, will want to stay on, with Gulati admitting: "He may want a different challenge."

Veh fines Guerrero for late showing

New Hamburg coach Armin Veh shrugged off the absence of Jose Paolo Guerrero at the club's first pre-season training session on Monday.

The Peruvian missed his flight back to Germany and called to say he had been involved in a car crash on his way to the airport.

Veh took the news well while confirming the player will still be fined for breaking club rules.

"I don't believe everything people say - there are Brazilians who get stuck in snow drifts preventing them from returning and they don't even call," he joked.

"I don't want to make a big deal out of this. They simply have a different culture, but we don't have to accept it. Paolo will have to pay a fine for that."

Di Maria to join Real Madrid

Real Madrid have agreed to sign Argentina winger Angel Di Maria on a six-year deal.

The 22-year-old will move to the Bernabeu from Benfica for a reported €25m.

Di Maria joined Benfica from Argentinian side Rosario Central in 2007 and helped the Lisbon-based side to a Portuguese league and cup double last season.

He won the World U-20 Championship with Argentina in 2007 and the following year scored the extra-time winner against Holland in the final of the Olympic Games.

Cruyff can't get through to Rosell

Johan Cruyff has claimed he was snubbed by Barcelona's new president, Sandro Rosell.

Cruyff was named honorary president of the Catalan club earlier this year by outgoing boss Joan Laporta. Rosell was against that decision, saying they should have a vote on any such nomination.

And Cruyff has been unable to speak to the new man, who is set to take over from Laporta tomorrow.

"I called Sandro and he didn't answer the phone," he said.

"I'm proud to be president of honour of FC Barcelona. I have been a 'sir' for 30 years in Holland and a lord for 10. I have a lot of titles, but it is something exciting for me to be honorary president of FC Barcelona."

Wolfsburg after Hertha's Friedrich

Wolfsburg are in talks with Hertha Berlin over signing their Germany defender Arne Friedrich.

Friedrich, 31, has two years left to run on his contract in the German capital, but is unlikely to remain at the club following their relegation to the second division.

Hertha are under pressure to sell their biggest earner and Friedrich recently admitted he had "several offers" but was not going to make up his mind over his future until after the World Cup.

Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg, though, have emerged as a possible destination.

"We are in negotiations with Hertha," the Wolves' managing director Dieter Hoeness said.

Celtic to hold talks with Cha Du-ri

Celtic will open talks with South Korean World Cup defender Cha Du-ri this week.

The Freiburg right-back, 29, is available on a free and revealed this week that he is flying in to Glasgow for a medical for the Parkhead club.

He was quoted as saying: "This week I fly to Glasgow to undergo a medical check. Then I will take a two-week vacation in South Korea."

If talks are successful, the former Bayer Leverkusen player will join up at Parkhead with international team-mate Ki Sung-yueng as Hoops manager Neil Lennon begins the refurbishment of his squad ahead of the new season.
