Football rained off

No Division One today

The two Premier League matches yesterday, Floriana vs Valletta and Birkirkara vs Sliema Wanderers, were postponed after the heavy rains which fell persistently during these past few days rendered the National Stadium pitch unfit for play.

The Malta FA yesterday announced that these two matches will now be played in that same sequence and at the same venue on Tuesday with kick-offs at 6 and 8 p.m.

There was no official news about today's Premier League matches at the Hibs Ground - Marsaxlokk vs Hamrun and Pietà vs Hibernians.

But the chances are that this two-match programme will also be cancelled as sources said the Corradino ground was soggy with plenty of rainwater still to drain out of the playing surface.

If cancelled, these two matches are likely to be played on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the ground management at the Victor Tedesco Stadium yesterday informed the Malta FA that the Hamrun pitch is waterlogged and no Division One matches will be played there this morning.

Lija vs Xghajra and Mqabba vs Balzan were shifted to the Centenary Stadium tomorrow at 6 and 8 p.m. As a result, the Youth League matches, Floriana vs Mosta and Sliema vs Birkirkara, were postponed for a later date yet to be announced.

8 p.m. Mqabba vs Balzan.
