Foreign clubs keeping tabs on Bogdanovic
Marsaxlokk sign Kokavessis, suspend three players
Daniel Bogdanovic is attracting interest from clubs in England, Turkey and Russia, well-placed sources have told The Times.
The Malta striker has 18 months left on his contract with Bulgarian top-division club Lokomotiv Sofia where Bogdanovic has established himself as a first-team regular.
Although Bogdanovic is enjoying his time with Lokomotiv, who have former Floriana coach Danilo Doncic among their technical staff, he has not ruled out the possibility of moving clubs again this month if the conditions were right.
A few years back, Bogdanovic was on the verge of signing for Crystal Palace, who play in the English Championship, but the deal fell through at the last minute.
It is believed that Bogdanovic, who was on the books of Italian Serie C2 side Cisco Roma last season, is now being monitored by Nottingham Forest. The English club, who also play in the first division league, have already made preliminary enquiries about Bogdanovic.
The Times has been told that Lokomotiv Sofia are aware of Forest's potential interest in Bogdanovic and have even given the latter permission to speak to his suitors. Bogdanovic returned to Bulgaria late last month to resume training with Lokomotiv ahead of the restart of the league campaign in February following the traditional winter break.
Lokomotiv are sixth in the Bulgarian Premier League with 22 points from 15 matches, 11 behind leaders Levski Sofia.
Apart from Nottingham Forest, a top-flight club from Turkey and one from Russia have also been in touch with Bogdanovic's agent but they have yet to come up with a concrete offer for the Malta international.
In November, the 28-year-old striker, who has had spells with a host of Maltese and overseas clubs in his career, was recalled by Malta coach Dusan Fitzel for the friendly match against Iceland.
Marsaxlokk, one of Bogdanovic's former clubs, yesterday completed the signing of young striker Dylan Kokavessis from Hamrun Spartans.
Kokavessis, who joined the Spartans from Pietà Hotspurs last summer, is expected to make his debut for Marsaxlokk in tomorrow's match against Sliema Wanderers after penning a three-and-a-half year deal.
Marsaxlokk president Robert Micallef told The Times that the club had decided to take disciplinary action against three players.
Defenders William Camenzuli and Stephen Wellman have been suspended for 28 days and put on the transfer list for showing a lack of commitment towards the club.
Argentine striker Julio Alcorse has been told that his services are no longer required. However, the Marsaxlokk president stressed that given that Alcorse joined Marsaxlokk in a loan agreement with Hibs he will continue to honour his contractual obligations to the Argentine striker until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Romanian defender Lucian Dronca, 35, is also set to make his first start for Sliema tomorrow after his registration documents were filed at the MFA offices yesterday.
