Senior officials of the foreign ministries of The Bahamas, Lesotho, Mauritius, Swaziland, Tonga, Uganda and Tanzania are following a one-year postgraduate diploma course on information technology and diplomacy.

They are currently attending an introductory workshop in Malta.

The course consists of an online introduction, the introductory workshop in Malta and 10 months of online learning. It covers a broad spectrum of issues, including the position of diplomats in a globalised world, new issues on diplomatic agendas and the use of the internet and other information and communications technology based tools for diplomatic activities. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a postgraduate diploma awarded by the University of Malta.

The year-long course is organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the government of Malta under the Malta-Commonwealth Third Country Programme, with support from the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation. It is taught by the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta.

By the end of the course participants will understand the main concepts and trends in the fields of ICT, diplomacy and international relations. They will also be able to design strategy and projects related to various aspects of the use of ICT in diplomacy.
