A number of pyrotechnicians from Italy, Austria and Portugal - including the organisers of the World Fireworks Championships which are held annually at Sanremo in Italy - have been invited to watch the Malta Fireworks Festival.

The second edition of the festival, organised by the Malta Tourism Authority, will be held in Grand Harbour on Friday and Satuday evening.

During these two evenings, 15 of Malta's and Gozo's fireworks factories will be demonstrating their craft.

Highlights of the festival include a spectacular laser show by Sahara Studios on Friday and Saturday at 9.30 p.m. entitled The History of Malta, which will portray Malta's history to the sound effects of fireworks and music, as well as firework displays synchronised to music on Friday at 10.50 p.m.

The grand finale on Saturday at 11 p.m. will comprise a spectacular fireworks display by some of Malta's best pyrotechnic factories.

There will also be musical entertainment, band marches, boat races, water displays and traditional Maltese food. Part of the Grand Harbour will be closed to sea vessels between 7 p.m. and midnight on the days of the festival.

Transport by boat will be provided from and to Senglea, Vittoriosa and Sliema.
