It would be interesting to find out if the parents of foreign students know that their children are accommodated in hotels. My brother was recently here on holiday and stayed in a hotel in Sliema. He had sleepless nights as the students were running up and down the corridors all night, going into each others' rooms, singing and shouting and banging doors.

The hotel offered to change his hotel and that of other residents who couldn't tolerate the nuisance. Many a time the lift was broken due to the students' childlike pranks.

Is this new trend of hosting foreign students in hotels going to affect the return of tourists who would dread the thought of sharing a hotel with them? Do the leaders of these students also stay in the hotel with them? These unruly guests are sure to affect the tourism industry as on their return back to their country they will spread the word that there is no rest in a Maltese hotel.

Recently the amount of rubbish surrounding the outside of hotels was also noted. To blame it on the local councils is not right. If this sort of accommodation is to survive then it is up to the hotels to lay down new rules with the students' agency. These guests have to realise that we are not a dump but a civilised nation.

Their leaders, many of who, in my experience, don't bother much, must be given a bigger responsibility. When rubbish is thrown out of hotel windows then the leaders know very well it belongs to their students.

Also when it is the early hours of the morning and the students are on their balcony causing havoc and keeping neighbours awake, the leader should be located by the hotel to have it stopped.
