I refer to the article (July 5) on an invitation to war veterans to mark the battle for Malta.

Wg Cdr Essex has no idea of the battle for Malta when he invited only army regiments for the re-union.

During late 1942 and early 1943, I was an armourer in the Royal Air Force, deployed for anything from 16 to 20 hours daily, re-arming 126 Sqn fighters. Like me there were hundreds of local airmen (not to mention our Royal Navy comrades) and many also gave their lives on active service.

I must also remind him that there were civilian tradesmen who helped to keep the aircraft airworthy with their technical ability during the war.

It is hoped that the veterans will include these forgotten veterans.
