John Egan, president of the Confederation of British Industry, is one of the speakers at the conference of the Federation of Industry entitled Re-Positioning our SMEs in the Global Market.
The conference, on March 30, is being supported by the British High Commission in Malta and Bank of Valletta.
Sir John will be speaking about how UK industry has experienced a comeback in the global market, how UK-based industry succeeded through difficult times and on the various measures the UK government took in order to stimulate the economy.
Sir John rejoined British Leyland as chairman of Jaguar Cars in May 1980 and when it was privatised in August 1984 he remained as chairman and chief executive of Jaguar Cars Limited, later becoming chairman and chief executive of Jaguar plc in March 1985.
After the take-over by Ford, Sir John retired from Jaguar and was appointed to the board of directors of BAA in June 1990, taking up the position of chief executive in September that year, which he held until October 1999.
Sir John is non-executive chairman of Inchcape, Harrison Lovegrove and Asite. He is past president of the Institute of Management and a trustee of the Cancer Research - K.
A conference participation fee of Lm20 is being charged to FOI members and non-members will be charged Lm25.
