Former Kenya head coach Mike Kosgei is to work with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to help develop distance runners in Mozambique.
"He will be working for IOC under the Olympic Solidarity Programme and after identifying talented middle and long distance runners there he will bring them to the high performance training centre in Eldoret to prepare them for the Beijing Olympics," National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) chairman Kipchoge Keino told Reuters.
Athletics Kenya demoted Kosgei last month when they scrapped the position of head coach.
He is now coaching selected athletes, including Kenya's world 5,000 metres champion Eliud Kipchoge.
"It is exciting to take responsibility for a country identified with just a couple of 800m runners, among them, Maria Mutola," Kosgei said. "Four years is enough time to shoulder such responsibility and I hope for the best."
