Former MIA CEO Peter Bolech dies
'His leadership laid the groundwork for the organisation's growth and success' the airport said in a statement
MIA's first CEO, Peter Bolech, has died, the airport announced on Tuesday evening.
"Today, we remember Mr Peter Bolech, a leader who helped shape the foundations of our airport’s journey," MIA said in a statement.
As the Malta airport's first Chief Executive Officer following Malta International Airport’s privatisation in 2002, Bolech led the company up until December 2007.
The Austrian national initially joined the airport's management as business unit head in 1994.
"His leadership laid the groundwork for the organisation's growth and success in the years that followed," the airport social media statement said of the man who was in his early 70s.
"Beyond his professional achievements, he will be remembered as a visionary leader who valued people, and brought the same passion he had for aviation to his love of nature and classical music, generously supporting the local arts scene throughout his time with the company".
The airport expressed its condolences to Bolech's loved ones, "and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. May he rest in peace," MIA said.
