Football player Charles Muscat died today on his 48th birthday, the Birzebbuga St Peters' Football Club said.

The club said that Mr Muscat was Player of the Year in the 1983-1984 season and for some time also formed part of the national team.

He spent most of his carreer with the Birzebbuga St Peter's Football Club but also played with St Patrick's and Zurrieq.

The Birzebbuga Club expressed its condolences to his family.
