A 30-year-old man from San Gwann was yesterday arraigned and charged with receiving payment to traffic a person for the purposes of prostitution.

The man, whose name cannot be published by court order because of other investigations and possible arraignments, was a policeman who resigned from the force before he was charged.

The man was further charged with associating himself with others in a ring where people were exploited for prostitution and that he assisted another man who was involved in the trafficking of persons for prostitution purposes.

The former policeman was also charged with accepting payment for which he had no right because he was a public officer and with committing a crime he was in duty bound to prevent.

He pleaded guilty and declared that he will give evidence if called to testify in related proceedings against third parties.

He was granted bail on a personal guarantee of Lm5,000.

Dr Joe Giglio was defence council.
