Former Security Service chief Godfrey Scicluna was today acquitted of the involuntary homicide of a 90-year-old man as a result of a traffic accident.
Mr Scicluna had resigned from his post when the court case was instituted.
Mr Scicluna had been reversing his car when he allegedly hit Raffaele Lughermo.
The court said the victim had ended up on the ground behind Scicluna's car and had suffered fractures but there there was nothing to contradict Scicluna's evidence.
Mr Scicluna said he had been parking in Paola. He stopped and starting reversing. He heard a thump behind the car and immediately stopped.
The court noted that the car bore no marks of the incident and there were no brake marks.
Dr Giannella de Marco and Michael Schriha were defence counsel.
