Fort Cambridge development brief (1)

A little known fort on a very popular peninsula is getting a revamp. While the battery financed by Balí de Tigné managed to get a promontory named after it Fort Cambridge, an addition from the British period, is relatively unknown. Fort Cambridge area is located within the Tigné peninsula fronting ix-Xatt ta' Qui -Si-Sana. The whole area is currently both residential and commercial and a substantial development is currently underway on the same peninsula. The Fort Cambridge site is popularly identified with the former Crowne Plaza Hotel grounds.

The aim of the development brief is to provide planning guidance on the future use and redevelopment of the Fort Cambridge area at Tigné, Sliema. The brief therefore includes detailed guidance on all developable areas as well as their land uses, areas to be protected from development and building heights.

This development brief therefore seeks to:

• Provide relevant background information on the site;
• Specify the planning objectives for development and conservation;
• Specify site constraints;
• Specify detailed policy guidance for the development; and
• Set out the format and content of submission requirements.
