The majority of workers at the St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation yesterday resigned from the General Workers' Union to join the newly-founded Professionals and Services Employees Union (PSEU).
The PSEU was founded in September 2006 by Karmenu Vella, the former media and services section secretary of the GWU who resigned from the union after the ousting of former GWU public service section secretary Josephine Attard Sultana by the union administration. The foundation's employees, including the custodians of the Co-Cathedral Museum, sent their resignation letters to GWU general secretary Tony Zarb and to Cory Greenland, the GWU's services and media section secretary, the PSEU said yesterday.
Copies of the letters were sent to Industrial Relations director Noel Vella.
In October 2006, the majority of National Orchestra musicians also resigned from the GWU to join the union set up by Mr Vella as did employees of Casa Leone XII in St Julians.
