A four-day Gozo festival, called Gozo 1234, will be held from May 1 to 4. The festival will feature a rich mixture of culture, history, music, food, drama, sport and dance.
It will also feature a fireworks festival which will include fireworks from Malta, Gozo, Denmark and Italy. The fireworks festival will be held on May 1 at Marsalforn, May 2 at Nadur and May 3 at Victoria.
Żurrieq Mount Carmel Fireworks Factory, winners of last year's Malta International Fireworks Festival, will conclude the festival on May 3 with a spectacular display in Victoria called the Glory of Fire. The festival was launched last Thursday by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono and Mario de Marco, parliamentary secretary for tourism.
Mrs Debono said the main aim of the activity was to promote tourism to Gozo during the shoulder months. She noted that efforts to promote Gozo among tourists were paying off.
Dr de Marco said the government was giving particular importance on the overseas marketing of Gozo as a distinct tourism destination. He said that the MTA would shortly open a new tourist information and administration office in one of the most central areas of Victoria.
During the days of the festival the Gozo ferry fares will be reduced by 70 per cent for travellers from Malta.
