Four energy technology projects receive €890,000 funding
The four projects are a result of collaboration between the private sector and Xjenza Malta
Four projects aimed at increasing efficiency in the energy and production technology sectors have been awarded funding totalling €890,000.
The Research and Innovation Ministry announced the funding at an event held in collaboration with government agency Xjenza Malta.
The ‘AIRSAVE’ project, which uses AI to reduce industrial energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions and the ‘VACUUM’ project, which uses seal-less vacuum moulds to increase industrial efficiency and reduce costs, were among the four to receive funding.
The ‘HyMiCHP’ project to develop a micro combined heat and power, or microCHP, system to increase residential energy costs and efficiency, and the ‘ECO-Composite’ collaboration between the University of Malta and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University to replace plastics with materials made from natural fibres, also received funding.
Announcing the spending, Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti said that “By investing in these energy technologies today, we are continuing to strengthen national energy security”.
The ministry said that by funding such projects, Malta was aiming to secure enhanced sustainability and profitability in the future.
The AIRSAVE project is in collaboration with automation company AIMS Enterprises, VACUUM with packaging manufacturer Toly Products and HyMiCHP with energy storage components manufacturer Abertax.
