Four men had a lucky escape when their speedboat sank while they were hunting at sea yesterday.

The police said that the men, aged 25 to 32, contacted a friend on a mobile phone when the boat started taking in water as they were returning to shore. The boat sank a few moments later, four miles off Qawra Point.

The friend first contacted the Armed Forces of Malta's Maritime Squadron, and then rushed to the scene in his own boat to help. The men - from Naxxar, Rabat, Birkirkara and Pietà - were later taken on board an AFM patrol boat. None were injured.
