Four people were rushed to hospital yesterday morning after a head-on collision in Balzan involving a van carrying disabled people.
Two were seriously, though not critically, injured while the other two were suffering from shock, the police said.
The accident took place in Triq Birbal, Balzan, close to Zmerc Bar, at 8.15 a.m.
The police said the accident happened after the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser, a 54-year-old man from Qrendi, crashed into a van, a Toyota Coaster, coming from the opposite direction. The van was being driven by a 23-year-old Mosta man.
On impact, the van, owned by the Department of Elderly and Community Services, skidded and slammed into a parked Fiat car.
The Civil Protection Department had to be called in to remove the passengers from the wrecked van.
Birkirkara district police are investigating.
