Four iGaming workers accused of beating up colleague over €250 loan

The four Greek nationals allegedly went to the man's home and assaulted him

Four iGaming workers landed in the dock Sunday for allegedly beating and grievously injuring a man who failed to pay back the money they loaned him.

The four accused and the alleged victim, all Greek nationals, work at the same gambling company. It is understood that the alleged victim had regularly borrowed money from the alleged aggressors, recently taking a loan of €250, which he did not return.

The four men went to the man’s apartment on Thursday, knocked on his door, went inside and allegedly beat him up.

The alleged victim, who shares the apartment with another person, sustained facial injuries.

The accused allegedly took a jacket which costs around €500 and his wallet.

Paplios Evaneglos (29), Christos Athanasios Paschalidis (30) and Voulgarakis Spyridon (30), living in Attard, alongside 33-year-old Kontogiannis Vasileios, who lives in Birkirkara, were accused of grievously injuring a fellow Greek national.

They were also accused of theft aggravated by violence, value, time and location, as well as holding the alleged victim against his will.

The four men were accused of using psychological violence on the alleged victim, handling stolen goods which belonged to the alleged victim, and willfully damaging objects belonging to the alleged victim.

They were further charged with carrying a knife in public.

The men denied the charges.

A request for bail was turned down due to the serious nature of the case and the fact that the alleged victim has not yet testified.

Magistrate Astrid May Grima presided.

AG lawyer Nicholas De Gaetano prosecuted, assisted by police inspector Clayton Abela.

Lawyers Nicholas Mifsud and Silvan Pulis assisted the accused.
