Four PL candidates submit nominations for Carmelo Abela's seat

The casual election takes place this Friday

Four Labour Party candidates will be taking part in the casual election to fill the seat in the third district vacated by Carmelo Abela, the Electoral Commission announced.

Raymond Abela, Paula Martina Buhagiar, James Grech and Eric Plumpton have thrown in their nomination for the casual election, which will take place this Friday at the Counting Hall Complex in Naxxar.

Abela gave up his seat after being appointed as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He could have retained his parliamentary seat while still serving as Speaker but that would have narrowed the Labour Party’s five-seat majority since an MP serving as Speaker loses his original vote, while holding a casting vote.
