Rescue crews yesterday pulled a fourth body from the massive pile of mud and debris covering much of a Southern California community after a landslide prompted by two weeks of nearly unrelenting storms.

Authorities have said that up to 27 people may still be buried amid homes crushed when a steep hillside above the Ventura County enclave of La Conchita gave way. Among those still missing and presumed buried in the muddy wreckage are three young girls and two teenagers who have not been seen since the slide on Monday afternoon.
