The government has appointed former Nationalist MP Franco Debono Commissioner of Laws.
The Office of the Commissioner was set up in terms of the 1980 Revisions of Statutory Laws Act. Its role is to review and consolidate legislation.
The commissioner may delete laws or sections of law which would have been revoked or have become outdated.
The commissioner may not, however, change the substance of any law.
In a statement, the government said Dr Debono was also being appointed coordinator of the Constitutional Convention. His first task will be to set the terms of reference of the convention.
