Frank Bonnici’s Trio presents a night of memorable film music
Aiming to recreate the cinematic atmosphere through its own arrangements
On Wednesday, the Malta Society of Arts will host Frank Bonnici’s Trio for an evening dedicated to classic and modern film music from the 20th and 21st centuries. The concert runs from 7 to 8.30pm and features pianist Frank Bonnici, percussionist Joe Camilleri and double bassist Anthony Saliba.
The performance will include a variety of well-known movie themes. Highlights include Francis Lai’s score from Love Story (1970) and A Man and a Woman, Nino Rota’s Speak Softly Love from The Godfather, Giorgio Moroder’s Academy Award-winning Midnight Express (partly filmed in Malta), and classic themes such as Mission Impossible, The James Bond Theme by Monty Norman and The Sting.
Although no orchestra will be present, the trio aims to recreate the cinematic atmosphere through its own arrangements. Joe Camilleri, formerly with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, will bring a dynamic percussive layer, while Anthony Saliba’s precise double bass work will complement Bonnici’s piano interpretations.
Bonnici dedicates this performance to audiences who appreciate romantic and film-inspired music. It will be a concise programme showcasing how memorable melodies have shaped cinema across decades.
