I'd like to tell you of an unexpected experience of kindliness during my stay on Malta.

I was invited to dinner by my friend Herbert Moser, honorary consul of the Republic of Malta in Austria, and I thought that a bottle of delicate Maltese wine would be a good gift. But what if you ran out of cash? Take the bus to the BOV ATM in St Paul's Bay and get some. What a good idea!

Arriving there two other people had already lined up waiting for cash. No problem had the machine been working. After several tries we had to accept: no money at this ATM. So I asked the police officer waiting in line before me where and how far away the next ATM was.

After he found out I was on foot he and his colleague invited me for a free police car ride to the next ATM. What a surprise! So I ended up in a Maltese police car, my first time ever in a police car, not under arrest or suspicion.

Therefore, I would really like to thank the two officers for their help and kindness, giving me a new experience and an example of Maltese hospitality.
