Friends discuss key needs for Victoria

The city is bidding to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031

A group of friends met at It-Tokk in Victoria where they discussed Victoria’s needs and opportunities over a cup of coffee. They focused on what initiatives can be introduced, following Victoria’s bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031.

They expressed their wish for everyone to continue working together in order to build a strong and inclusive cultural future for all. They also expressed their satisfaction at seeing Victoria on its path towards obtaining the title.

The discussion also touched upon Victoria’s two theatres, their important roles within the community and the value of voluntary work. The interest and participation of the Gozitan community, as well as cultural activities and events, were also highlighted.

Among the friends was Paul Galea, who served as mayor of Victoria between 1997 and 2000.

Another was Samuel Azzopardi, a practising lawyer with more than 13 years of experience in local government. He also served as mayor of Victoria for 10 years. Since 2009, Azzopardi has been serving as president of the Gozo Region.
