The Royal Navy Type 22 frigate HMS Campbletown today starts a five-day courtesy visit to Grand Harbour following an extended period operating in the Eastern Mediterranean as part of Nato's Operation Active Endeavour.

The Campbletown is the flagship of the Standing Naval Force Atlantic, a force of naval ships from several Nato nations that has been carrying out maritime surveillance and boarding operations in support of the global fight against terrorism.

The informal visit of the frigate will give a short but very welcome period of rest before the passage back to UK waters, the British High Commission said.

In February the frigate will sail once again for further SNFL duties in the Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

The ship will not be open to the public during her stay.
