Frontex drone forced to ditch at sea after technical fault

AFM have deployed assets to locate and secure the UAV

A Frontex-operated drone was forced to ditch at sea after experiencing technical difficulties on Sunday, the Armed Forces of Malta said.

In a statement, AFM said the Heron 1 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operated by Frontex experienced technical difficulties and was forced to ditch at sea.

Frontex is the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, the EU agency responsible for managing the bloc's external borders.

"The Herone 1 AUV is operated by Frontex as part of its maritime border control activities in the Central Mediterranean," the statement read.

The AFM have deployed assets to locate and secure the drone.
