The first round of the national league came to an end on Sunday. Champions Fuego Champs have consolidated their top spot by beating strong contenders All Ages Eurochange in an exciting game.

These two rivals will face each other again in the second round which gets underway on March 21.

Marsascala 39
HSBC 22

Marsascala confirmed their current good form by collecting another two points. The same cannot be said of HSBC who were depleted by the absence of four of their regular players.

Marsascala dominated the game from the start, although HSBC tried their utmost to offer resistance, managing to win the last quarter by a single shot.

Marsascala, making their debut in the first division, are now third with four points followed by Kerygma A and HSBC who have one point each.

Umpires: Sandra Farrugia, Jennifer Mangani.

Fuego Champs 27
All Ages 23

All Ages could not have had a better start, leading the first quarter 11-7. Fuego managed to adopt a tighter marking game to level the score by the second quarter.

The champions remained in the driving seat throughout the second half of the match with a two- or three-goal difference over their opponents.

However, five minutes from time, All Ages made a great comeback and reduced the deficit to one point. They spurned some scoring chances, allowing Fuego to wrap up the game.

Umpires: Odette Camilleri, Jennifer Mangani.

Standings: (Division One) Fuego 8; All Ages 6; Marsascala 4; Kerygma A, HSBC 1. (Division Two) Wolverines 6; New Ages 4; Kerygma B 2; Mellieha 0.
