The government yesterday announced a slight reduction in the price of leaded and unleaded petrol and higher prices for diesel and kerosene.

In a statement, the government said the changes were due to shifts in the international market over the past three months.

It said the international price of oil in the past three months had gone up while the value of the US dollar against the Maltese lira had gone down.

This effectively reduced the negative impact that the increase in the price of oil would otherwise have had.

Leaded and unleaded petrol have gone down to 39c6 and 36c6 cents per litre, respectively, a drop of 1 mil per litre each; diesel has gone up by 8 mils to 23c8 per litre; and kerosene has gone up by 5 mils to 12c7 per litre.

Fuel prices were first adjusted in April, following a budget announcement that prices would be established according to the international market. They were then readjusted in July.
