Fun and chic in children's clothing
Freedom and ease are the inherent concepts of childhood which United Colours of Benetton transforms into styles full of freshness and imagination
The many moods of the 2008 spring/summer collection come from all corners of the world, are inspired by different styles and influenced by everything that sets trends in fashion. The one recurring feature to be found throughout is an even mixture of freedom and ease: the freedom to wear, to interpret, to choose, to move about and play - in other words to be children.
Various themes make up the different lines of styles. Girls have the tennis club theme, with classic chic for the courts in white and pastel shades, including an umpire's blazer; Blue Jeans, in the literal sense of fabric and colour with red, Provencal flowers and Capri stripes as a diversion; Cover Girl, sparkling with glitter and Swarovski crystals, vivacious with ruches and gores, super-sweet in candy pink; American Beauty, romantic concessions for city streets, faded denim, flowery muslin, knits with tonal embroidery; Chic Bazaar, ethnic goes sophisticated with spice colours and oriental embellishments and gathers and embroidery with moderation; Holiday in Bali, new hippy in lacquer colours, tricot and ruffles for the grandchildren of the flower people; and Kisses from Malibu, with fresh shorts and minis in ice-cream colours and checks, narrow stripes and wild flowers matched with Lurex.
Boys will be boys and have Light City, colonial chic in super-washed denim with the addition of striped polo shirts and diamond pattern jumpers; School Style, seriously professional in the classroom in garnet red blazers and blue trousers, grey marl jersey and preppy-style badges; Street Mood, all according to the rules: black denim, camouflage canvas, dusty outerwear and heraldic prints; Bright Military, "uniforms" with bright peacetime colours and dog mascot in attendance; Activity Summer, making way for enthusiasts of all sports: vests, Bermuda shorts, tees and sweaters for summers on the move; Dragon Summer, a trace of ethnic in the faded prints, distressed denim and pearl fisher lengths; and Miami Style, free style beach and surfing, pieces for the promenade with creative layering for ocean breezes.
Layette ranges strictly for the tinies, for newborn babies, with garments in comfort jersey only: Lady Bird in bon ton pink for little girls and Little Tiger in chic light blue for the boys; Baby Duck, Angels and Funny Jungle in unisex colours.
