Friday, November 7, was an important day at Dr Godwin Ganado Primary School, Mtarfa.
The third edition of the fun cultural marathon walk was superbly organised by the teachers and school administration.
All the pupils from kindergarten up to Year 6 participated along with many parents - and a good number of grandparents!
The event was staged for the second year running at the Buskett Gardens. The beautiful cloudless day was a perfect setting for the occasion, which inspired all the children to participate so actively during the day.
The teachers had prepared informative handouts for their respective classes. These were in the form of a booklet that directed the pupils' attention to the environment, its care and upkeep and most importantly towards the love of nature in its true form.
It was a joy to watch the kindergarten children enjoying the tree bark rubbing exercise and busy collecting various and different tree leaves specimens!
The primary classes were involved in spotting and listing of any scattered litter left over by previous visitors to the place. Unfortunately their keen eyes spotted a large quantity of plastic bags and bottles, cigarette packets, etc. It was, though, an opportune moment for the teachers to signify the importance of keeping our environment as litter-free as possible.
The pupils exercised their powers of observation to spot different kinds of trees and leaves, their different sizes and type. Some even spotted various birds and a keen ear did manage to listen to different bird songs!
The follow-up work at school was that of putting the pupils' imaginative drawing and writing abilities to good use so as to highlight their day's experience.
Ms Pauline Grech, the head of school, thanked one and all for the work and effort involved. Special thanks went to the parents and sponsors who contributed towards this fund raising activity.
Prizes were distributed to a number of children to end a most enjoyable and informative day!
