Around 50 people donned funny hats for a good cause on Sunday, collecting money for the Malta Hospice Movement along the Bugibba promenade.

The event was organised by the founder of the Magic Malta Hash House Harriers, Michele Wilson, who persuaded the group of runners to slow down to a walk for the occasion.

The group was formed over two years ago, and includes locals among its predominantly expatriate members.

The volunteers stopped at various intervals, with a group of children from the Phyllisienne Brincat choir entertaining passersby.

Ms Wilson and her DJ husband plan to continue collecting money during the week at the hotels in which he performs, with the final amount being counted up on Friday.

"But judging by the notes that people were stuffing in, we think we have already collected a substantial amount," she said.
