Funds raised from Malta for Gaza will lead to direct assistance- YMCA Malta

The initiative leverages YMCA and Caritas' presence in Gaza

YMCA and Caritas are raising funds for Gaza.

The funds collected by the Maltese chapters of the two NGOs will be administered by YMCA Gaza, YMCA East Jerusalem, Caritas International and Caritas Malta's existing Gaza operations.

That means the funds raised in Malta will support families in Gaza through “colleagues who are physically present and actively serving communities on the ground,” a statement by YMCA Malta said on Saturday.

“The initiative leverages both organisations' established presence and partnerships in Gaza, ensuring donations translate directly into assistance for families in crisis,” the statement said.

The YMCA campaign “Dar for Gaza”  builds on the YMCA existing local efforts, the statement said.

The DAR (Dignity, Access, Refuge) initiative in Malta currently serves 120 people daily across prevention, outreach, residential, community and aftercare services to vulnerable populations.

“By extending these core values internationally, YMCA is demonstrating how local expertise in homelessness and crisis response can scale to address global humanitarian needs,” they said.

"The same values that drive our daily work with homeless individuals in Malta are now reaching families in Gaza through our YMCA colleagues and Caritas partners who are physically present, providing direct assistance to communities in desperate need," the organisation said.

YMCA Malta CEO Anthony Camilleri said providing funds for the Gaza initiative will lead to direct action.

"Our colleagues are on the ground right now, ensuring your contribution reaches the families who need it most," he said.

“The partnership with Caritas Malta strengthens the initiative's reach and effectiveness, combining two organizations with complementary strengths and shared commitment to serving vulnerable populations. Both organizations maintain established networks and operational capacity in Gaza, enabling immediate and sustained impact,” they said.

Donations can either be sent to YMCA Malta or Caritas Malta or Revolut 79306655.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has been steadily declining, with major international organisations, including the United Nations saying the Palestinian territory is experiencing famine.
