I was surprised to see that in his article, "Pioneering children's radio programmes" (The Sunday Times, February 27), Mr Frans Said failed to mention my late father, Ganni A. Cilia. My father used to broadcast a long series of children's programmes as In-Nannu tal-Hrejjef practically at the same time referred to in the feature.

These hrejjef consisted mainly of Maltese folk-tales which he used to adapt and produce through meticulous research as well as from childhood memories and by friendly chats with old village folk. These folk-tales on Rediffusion were extremely popular both with children as well as with adults.

In fact from 1951 till his retirement in 1964, my father, who was a headteacher, was in charge of school broadcasting on Rediffusion for all children in Malta and Gozo.

Mr Emanuel Cilia, Mgarr.
