More than two weeks after Enemalta Corporation announced that the gas shortage was officially over, a number of people from various localities are still without a supply.
Some yesterday complained that although the distributors have been to their street, they refused to let them buy any cylinders.
But the Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises - GRTU, which represents the gas distributors, said the situation was getting back to normal after an agreement was reached with the Investments Ministry, responsible for the corporation.
The GRTU said that as a result of the agreement, distributors were now handling enough cylinders to match demand, as they were going back to the gas depot for more cylinders when these run out.
The GRTU said it had long been insisting that with enough cylinders and with a continuous gas supply, all consumers would be served.
Many householders will be more than relieved when the gas situation returns to normal.
A woman from Birkirkara complained yesterday she had been desperately waiting for a cylinder for four weeks but the distributor refused to sell her any although he had passed in front of her house.
She was among the tens of callers who complained that they were being left in a pitiful state with no way to cook or heat their homes.
