British Airways franchise partner GB Airways has recruited five Maltese nationals who have now been trained to fly for the airline.
A recruitment drive in Malta took place last October when more than 100 potential applicants were seen by the recruitment team.
The initial training course, which takes place at GB Airways head office, lasts five weeks and includes safety, security, aviation medicine and customer service.
The new recruits will work as cabin crew on the Airbus fleet flying to any of the 30 British Airways destinations served by GB Airways from London, including Malta.
On qualifying Chris Eckett said: "'I am so pleased to have completed the course successfully and I would recommend that more people should come over. I just want to fly now and I can't wait to get started".
Other new crew members echoed these sentiments. Charlene Vella said: "The course was very serious and intense but also interesting. I must also add that the trainers were fantastic and we got a lot of encouragement".
Warren Tabone Valletta, who shares an apartment with new recruits Alison Attard and Mr Eckett, added: "I was first attracted by the newspaper advert for the position. During our training, I found the staff friendly and approachable".
The airline welcomes applications from European Union citizens who can work legally in the UK.
A second group of Maltese are currently undergoing the initial training course in Gatwick and are expected to qualify on March 18.
